Class Description -In this collage class you
will work to discover your own unique styles. You will build from
basic design elements and principles to create abstract compositions.
Come join a creative adventure of color, design and texture.
This time we will also work with ways to create texture with paint and ways to incorporate found objects. Supplies - An old hardcover book that we can glue on and paint on.
30x40 or bigger canvas - we will work on this big canvas in every class
4-6 small work surfaces for exercises (I prefer canvases, but watercolor paper is ok too.) - another choice would be pad of canvas, available at Micheals. This would be a good easy choice to bring back and forth to class.
Soft gel medium they don't have this at Michael's so you will have to order from www.dickblick.com or www.jerrysartarama.com
Acrylic paint - at least 5 colors plus white and black a mixture of craft paints and artists tube paints is best.
(optional but what I mainly use) Golden Fluid Acrylics (they are the best for a thin shear layer of bright color - Dick Blick has a nice starter set with 10 colors for about $35 -Jerrysartarama has a starter set of fluid acrylics from da vinci with 6 colors)
Aleens tacky glue in the gold bottle. It is just a cheap glue that works well with our mediums for a good hold.
Brushes - a few sizes but one 2" brush (you can get this from the hardware store too) and one smaller one that you can get yucky with glue
A flexible metal trowel (you can get this in the faux painting section of the hardware store)
foam makeup sponges
91% rubbing alcohol
water jar big enough to clean your biggest brushes
paper towels
big plastic garbage bags to cover work surface - or a roll of plastic drop cloths to use to cover your table and take your wet canvases home
scissors
ruler
old catalog to use as a palette
papers - any old letters, sheet music, old books to cut up, white tissue paper, textured fabrics, cheese cloth, cardboard, handmade papers and dress patterns. (I'll bring some but it is fun to swap with others too)
Papers - optional but encouraged. - http://handmade-paper.us/ some of my favorites are Thai Unryu White Linen, Thai Newsprint Tissue, lokta natural tissue, kinwashi and mulberry tissue, abaca natural ,bark paper and embroidered paper. remember we are going to paint over them so don't worry about color as much as texture and weight. white or cream is best. I like under 35gsm and then very thick textured pieces.
any stamps and stencils that you already have
optional - color wheel and gray scale and value finder
